Common Questions

How do I know if therapy might help my child or family?

Therapy may be helpful when emotions, behaviors, relationships, or life changes begin to feel difficult to manage or are getting in the way of everyday life. You don’t need to know exactly what’s wrong or what kind of support you need before reaching out. We can talk about what you’re noticing, what’s been difficult, and whether therapy may be a good fit for your child or family.

How do I get started?
What happens at the first appointment?

The first appointment is a chance for us to get to know one another and better understand what brings you to therapy. We’ll talk about current concerns, important history, strengths, and what you hope will be different as a result of therapy. We’ll also discuss recommendations and begin identifying goals for our work together.

Does my child attend the first appointment?

For children 12 and younger, the first appointment is typically caregiver-only. This gives caregivers space to share concerns, history, and important information without needing to discuss sensitive topics in front of their child. For teens, we’ll determine together what makes the most sense for the first appointment based on their needs and circumstances.

How often will we meet & how long does therapy last?

Most therapy sessions are approximately 50 minutes, and most clients begin with weekly sessions to support consistency and progress. The overall length of therapy varies depending on individual needs, goals, and progress. We’ll check in along the way and make decisions about frequency and continued care together.

How involved are parents/caregivers in therapy?

Parents and caregivers are an important part of the therapy process, especially when working with children. Your involvement may include check-ins, caregiver sessions, or opportunities to learn ways to support progress at home. How often we meet with caregivers will be discussed during the initial intake session and may change over time based on your child’s age, needs, and treatment goals. Caregiver involvement is balanced with your child’s need for privacy and a trusting therapeutic relationship.

What are your fees and do you accept insurance?

Self-Pay

The self-pay rate is $120 per 50-minute session. A limited number of reduced-fee appointments may be available based on financial need and availability.
